Pox 189, Centerville, UT 84014-0189, USA, Research Report af 30. november 1998: Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was born 22 October 1910 in Omaha, Douglas County, Nebraska to Jens Kinnerup and Laura Jersen, both from Denmark. Two years later Edith Kinnerup was born to Jens and Laura Kinnerup. Between the time of Edith's birth in about 1912 and 1920, Jens Kinnerup and Laura Jersen were divorced. Jens Kinnerup left Nebraska before 1920; his history after that time is unknown. In the mid 1920s Laura Jersen Kinnerup was admitted to the Douglas County Hospital becauseof her unstable mental condition. As Laura Kinnerup was mentally unstable and unable to care for her children they were placed in an orphanage, probably St. James Catholic Orphanage in Omaha. On 20 October 1928 Laura Kinnerup was committedto the Nebraska State Mental Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska for dementia and paranoia. Sixteen years later, Laura Kinnerup died of cancer while still in the State Hospital on 29 September 1944. Laura Kinnerup was buried in a cemetery on the hospital grounds. By 1929, Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was working for Magnuson X-Ray Company where he stayed until at least 1935. Between 1935 and 1937 Kenneth Karl Kinnerup married Esther Stockamp and moved to Denver, Colorado. Kenneth Karl Kinnerup, like his mother, suffered from mental disorders and was committed to the Colorado State Mental Hospital in Pueblo, Colorado for his psychotic behavior in June 1950. On 7 September 1953 Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was struck in the abdomen by another patient What the relationship was between Bertha Irene Kinnerup and Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was not found during this research. Bertha Irene Cannon Kinnerup was born 7 May 1895 in Michigan, applied for her social security number in New Jersey and died in Denver, Colorado 13 September 1986. At the time of her death she was a widow and she was buried in a single grave in Fairmount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. The name of her husband was not obtained during this research project. The niece of Bertha Irene Kinnerup, Bertha Keding, was living in Englewood, Florida in 1986. No one with the Keding surname currently has a telephone number in Englewood, Florida. A letter could be sent to the address in Florida to ask if the niec e is still living and if she knows what the relationship was between Bertha Irene Kinnerup and Kenneth Karl Kinnerup. Description of Research The research began with a search of 1920 Federal Census of Nebraska for the Kinnerup family, The family was found living on 9th Street in Omaha, Nebraska. Laura Kinnerup is listed in this census record as 31 years old, born in Denmark, divorced, and mother of two children. She supported her family working as an elevator conductor. The children, Kenneth and Edith, were both born in Nebraska. There is no indication in this record of who the father is, other than that he was bor n in Denmark. No marriage record was found in Omaha of Laura and Jens Kinnerup. A search was made of the 1910 Federal Census for Nebraska, but no Kinnerup family was found. Probate and cemetery records in Omaha were searched for clues to who the father of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was, but no information was found. A letter was sent to the Vital Records Office of Omaha to find the birth record of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup, but no answer has been received to this letter. Another letter was sent to the Nebraska State Office of Vital Records to obtain a copy The vital records of Nebraska are not available on microfilm, so contact was made with a woman in Omaha, Mrs. Margaret Forsythe, to research the Kinnerup family in records available in Omaha. Mrs. Forsythe was not able to find birth records of eeither Kenneth or Edith Kinnerup in the records of Omaha, but in the time period around 1910 many births were not recorded. She searched for a divorce record of Laura Kinnerup in Omaha, but was also not able to find one. She scarched guardianshiip records to find when Kenneth and Edith were placed in the orphanage, but did not find any guardianship records. When Kenneth and Edith Kinnerup were placed in the orphanage, both of their parents were still living, but the father was no longer living in Nebraska and Laura, the mother, was unable to care for the children. So although there was no one to care for the children, they were not orphans. As no record was found legally placing the children in the orphanage , which indicates they may have been in the orphanage out of charity, rather than by court order as is the case with most children in orphanages. Mrs. Forsythe did find a listing in the 1910 Omaha City Directory for "Kinnerup, Jens, Lab 3001 So. 10th". This was the first indication found of who the father of Kenneth Kinnerup was. The occupation "Lab" indicates he worked in some typeof laboratory. No other listing or information was found regarding Jens Kinnerup. Between 1929 and 1935, Kenneth Kinnerup was found four times in the Omaha City Directory. Mrs. Forsythe made a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska and found Laura Kinnerup's obitutuary in a book she found in a library there. The obituary indicates a death date of 29 September 1944 and provides the married name of Edith Kinnerup as Mrs. Edith Carlin, Chicago Illinois. In the same library, Mrs. Forsythe found Laura Kinneruup listed buried in the Yankee Hill Cemetery, which is the cemetery at the Nebraska State Mental Hospital. She called the Nebraska State Mental Health Board to find when Laura Kinnerup was committed to the State Mental Hospital, but could not get any information. She also printed out listings of people with the Kinnerup surname from a current U.S. telephone directory. Mrs. Forsythe provided significant help in finding the clues needed to put together the history of the Kinnerup family. Her help in this project is gratefully acknowledged. The search for the death record of Laura Kinnerup was made in the hope that the name of her former husband could be found. The death record of Laura Kinnerup was obtained from the Vital Records Office of Nebraska. However, the death certificate of Laura Kinnerup gave no indication of who her husband or parents had been. The death certificate does however give intonation into the history of Laura Kinnerup. The death certificate indicates Laura Kinnerup suffered from dementia a nd paranoia, that she had been in the State Hospital since 1928 and that she was in the Douglas County Hospital before that. She died of uterine cancer on 29 September 1944 and was buried in a cemetery on the hospital grounds. Death information on John Kinnerup and Irene Kinnerup was found in the Social Security Death Index and the Vital Records Office of Colorado was contacted to get copies of their death certificates. The death certificate of John Kinnerup lists his parents as Kenneth Carl Kinnerup and Esther Stockamp. The death certificate of Irene Kinnerup provides her full name as Bertha Irene Cannon Kinnerup, but her death record gives no indication of who her husband was. She was buried in the Fairmomount Cemetery in Denver, Colorado, and it was hoped that her husband could also be found buried in the same cemetery. The cemetery was contacted and provided the information that Bertha Kinnerup is buried in a single grave. The cemetery provided the names of the only two other burials in the cemetery with the Kinnerup surname, John Kinnerup buried 31 August 1972, and Kenneth Karl Kinnerup buried 8 September 1953. The cemetery also provided the information that the next of kin indicated at the time of burial of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup was Bertha Kinnerup. It is unusual that the cemetery records do not show Kenneth Karl Kinnerup's wife, Esther Stockamp as next of kin. No information was found to indicate how Bertha Irene Kinnerup was related to Kenneth Karl Kinnerup, but they were related. Bertha Kinnerup was not Kenneth Karl Kinnerup's mother, nor his wife, nor his sister. How she was related to him and why she was listed as next of kin is s till a mystery. One possibility is that Kenneth Karl Kinnerup and Ester Stockamp divorced and Bertha Kinnerup was the second wife of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup. With the death date of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup provided by the cemetery, it was possible to request a copy of his death certificate. The death certificate of Kenneth Karl Kinnerup provided proof that his father was Jens Kinnerup, who was foun d by Mrs. Forsythe listed in the 1910 Omaha City Directory. The death certificate also indicates that, like his mother, Kenneth Karl Kinnerup suffered for several years from mental disorders and died in a state mental hospital. | Kinnerup, Kenneth Karl (I9560)
